Without diminishing the effect that even the threat of
violence can have on an individual, the figures demonstrate that most incidents
recorded are ‘minor’ in terms of the physical harm done to the victim.

Education and re-assurance
- Awareness-raising for young people: in schools, and in
social education settings for those young offenders already supervised by the
Youth Offending Team
- Deployment and enforcement f standards and expectations
on those managing night-time economy services (bars and clubs and other
licensed premises in particular)
- Training for front-line staff in agencies able to offer
support for victims and witnesses
- Crime reduction advice and guidance within all
city-centre planning applications
Prevention/diversion
- Target hardening and/or personal safety devices
provided for vulnerable, especially repeat, victims
- High visibility police patrols in ‘hotspot’ locations
for street violence
- Target hardening measures in ‘hotspot’ locations for
street violence
- Use of weapons amnesty by the police – to include
knives as well as firearms
Enforcement
- Use of the Prolific and Other Priority Offenders
Strategy and the extended Priority Offenders Project to target those most at
