Alcohol Campaign

Safe, Sensible, Social drinking

Sheffield Safer Communities Partnership will raise awareness of the risks of binge drinking this Christmas with a dramatic advertising campaign in the city centre.

The Drinkheads campaign was launched at the City Hall with the poster images projected on the corner of the building.  The campaign highlights the risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption.  Drunkenness can lead to a higher likelihood of arrest, accepting to travel in unlicensed cabs and causing house-fires – these three issues are highlighted in the campaign.

Research conducted for Sheffield First Safer Communities Partnership has revealed that alcohol misuse will:
  • cost the local health service over £11.9 million pounds per year,
  • cost the criminal justice system over £15.3 million pounds per year,
  • lead to over 250,000 working days lost from the workforce,
  • lead to over 161 sexual assaults per year, and
  • affect over 7,900 children with drinking parents.

Sarah Banks, Head of the Partnership said: “The campaign hits home with a strong message about the risks associated with excessive drinking.  It will remind people socialising in Sheffield city centre this Christmas that they should ensure their enjoyable night out does not end in a cell or by putting themselves and others in danger.

“Sheffield Safer Communities Partnership is committed to creating a safe city centre for all, and would ask people to drink sensibly so that everyone can enjoy a happy Christmas and New Year.”
